Blogging and Research: What tone ?

Blogs tend to take an informal chatty tone. Scholarly writing tends to do the contrary. When blogging in connection to research, what to do? Scholarly wording can on a blog is very likely to seem pretentious. Chatty, informal writing can sometimes be annoying in more than the smallest doses, when included in research writing.

In Writing for Social Scientists(1986), sociologist Howard Becker encourages scholarly writers to be more direct in their writing. In Telling About Society (2007) he notes that writing styles and the social conditions that produce it are material to be studied.*

Des blogs sont souvent écrit dans style familier, même parfois bavard. L'écriture universitaire fait le contraire. Lorsque l'on blogue au sujet d'une recherche type universitaire, que faire ? Les formulations universitaires sur un blogue risque d'apparaitre fort prétentieux. Une écriture universitaire, formulée sur un ton qui informel et bavard, pourrait être agaçant à la longue.
