Brevity, Editing, Holding and Abandoning- Brièveté, révision, maintien et abandon

When working on others' writing it's easier to see the repetitions, and the examples that could potentially be eliminated, without any loss of understanding or quality. With one's own writing, this is frequently difficult to see upon first and even second reading. This honing could be considered as holding and yet there is also abandoning what the writing was, the need to include all. Letting the examples and restatements go and trusting that the writing is clear enough that the reader will get it the first time without so much reiteration.

Lorsque l'on lis ou relis l'écriture d'un autre on vois plus facilement les répétitions, les exemples qui pourraient éventuellement être supprimés, sans perte de lisibilité ou qualité. Avec son propre écriture, ceci est souvent moins facile à voir à la première et même deuxième lecture. L'affinement/modification/réécriture d'un texte pourrait être perçu comme une posture de maintien, et, cependant, il y a aussi de l'abandon de qui était l'écriture, et abandon du besoin de tout inclure : Lâcher les exemples et réaffirmations superflus, et supposer que la composition est suffisamment claire, pour que le lecteur le comprend la première fois, sans besoin d'autant de réitération.
